One of the main reasons I loved Bavaria: wood piles everywhere.
Maybe not a selling point if you prefer trees alive, but with the snow capped mountains in the distance they were something out of a storybook.
This particular woodpile was in the shadow of the Neuschwanstein Castle…which is really just a tourist trap. I was much more interested in the piles of wood.

We must be kindred spirits. I love wood piles too. Can I get a whole backyard of wood piles please?

one plug for neuschwanstein though: hiking up to it in the middle of the night, dead of winter, all by yourself, while listening to Heart and Radiohead and Muse, with eery shadows cast every which way against the hazy misted castleness… was sorta cool and one of the most untouristy things I’ve ever done at a tourist trap.

i love the one of grant on the woodpile. mostly because of his stylish shoes that match the graffiti on the log.
